Abstract
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) provides protection for patients regarding the use of their personal medical information. It provides specific instruction on the types of information that must be protected by their providers, generally called personal health information (PHI). Recognizing how to protect patient information is a growing challenge as new HIT is implemented in clinical settings. The following activities and resources will benefit both clinical and technical students.
