Abstract

This four-module, face-to-face course combines presentations, reading and writing assignments, tutorial videos, and classroom/lab activities to introduce students to the fundamentals of CAD/CAM technology as it applies to the orthotics and prosthetics industry. Students will gain an understanding of CAD/CAM history and key developers as well as CAD/CAM companies and systems. Students will access tutorial videos that feature The Ohio Willow Wood Company CAD technology and will perform shape capture, modification, and fabrication tasks using its OMEGA® 2013 CAD software system. Major emphasis is placed on the user interface, work space, and workflow tools available within the software system. Fabrication tools, model preparation techniques, and carver options are also addressed.
