Abstract

The major course topics include the following: A. History of biofuels as an energy source B. Production process of biofuels -- crop growing, pretreatment, and conversion C. Biomass feed stocks – food sources (corn stover, soy residue, wheat, etc.) D. Biomass feed stocks – non-food sources (switch grass, miscanthus, poplar wood, tall fescue, algae, logging waste, municipal solid waste, etc.) E. Crop availability and pricing F. Carbon neutral production G. Laws, regulations, and standards for biofuel production H. International implications for biofuels I. Energy balance and security of biofuels J. Social, economic, and political implications of biofuels K. Vehicle use of biofuels Please note that all course materials and content are provided in the IMS Common Cartridge (IMSCC) format.
