Abstract

This learning object covers elements and atoms, with emphasize on the Periodic Table of Elements. The name of elements and their corresponding atomic symbols, the type of element (metal, nonmetal, or metalloid), and specific groups are identified. This object provides an overview of the atom and atomic theory, introducing the three types of subatomic particles--electrons, protons, and neutrons. Identifying atomic number, isotopes, and determining atomic mass of an element are also explained. This learning object is part 5 of 17 parts that comprise this Introductory Chemistry Course.
