Abstract
This course covers back office topics for medical assisting. For example; how to communicate effectively with patients, active listening, dealing with difficult patients, how a patient’s brain reacts to illness and how that influences communication. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection control, including the infection cycle of bacteria and viruses is also included. Several specific infectious diseases will be discussed. Students will learn how to collect a patient’s history, check patients into a clinic, and prepare them for their appointments or procedures. Instruction on patient care, taking vitals, treatment, diagnosis assistance, giving medication and performing specific screening tests will be addressed. There will be a review of an EHR computer program. Emergency plans with OSHA, MSDS and safety in the clinic will be discussed.
