Abstract

This NANSLO lab activity is self-contained and can be used in General Biology with lab and Survey of Biology courses. In this activity, prepared slides of plant and animal cells are examined in various stages of development. Background information discusses the cell theory, the mechanisms underlying the third principle of the cell theory -- cells are descended from preexisting cells, the mitotic cell cycle, sperm and egg meiosis, and the relationship between mitosis and meiosis. The lab activity also includes lab exercises and summary questions.
