Abstract

This NANSLO lab activity is self-contained and can be used as a titration lab in general chemistry and survey of chemistry courses. In this activity, an acid/base titration is used to determine the amount of citric acid in various popular food drinks. The lab activity includes background information on titration and how it works, a description of what citric acid is and its chemical composition, acid equilibrium constants for citric acid, and how to determine citric acid content using titration with a strong chemical base. The lab activity includes information on estimating error, lab exercises, and post-lab analysis activities.
