Abstract

Introduction to the main plastic processing industries, techniques, and commonly used polymers. MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to: Describe and explain plastic manufacturing processes. Identify and differentiate between thermoplastics and thermosets. Determine and practice safety requirements for common processes and materials. Evaluate selected properties of plastic materials. Determine effects of ingredients added to plastics. Identify chemical formulas, properties, and applications of selected thermoplastics and thermosets. Evaluate different machining and finishing processes for plastics. Describe decoration processes used on plastics. Demonstrate an understanding of common plastic terminology.
