Abstract
A clinical course designed to facilitate critical thinking skills and advanced competencies as the student moves from the student role to the practitioner of nursing. Concepts of leadership, accountability, delegation, discharge planning, and advocacy will be emphasized as the student adapts to the complex realities of the work arena. Collaboration is fostered by the presentation of a simulated teaching project following the format for a contact hour offering as defined by the Florida Board of Nursing. Professional transition is achieved by the development of a resume, preparation for an interview and job search. In a structured clinical environment, the nursing student will identify and replicate the registered nurses role in today’s health care system. The student nurse will work under the supervision of a registered Nurse Preceptor and/or faculty member for a period of 90 clinical hours over three weeks.
