Abstract

This is the course outline for Capital Community College’s Data Communications and Networking III. This course is a continuation beyond CST*231 and CST*281, Data Communications and Networking I and II. This advanced-level course provides students with extensive hands-out experience with WAN-related devices and media and describes the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in larger and more complex networks. Participants learn how to configure routers and switches for advanced functionality. By the end of this course, participants will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, and STP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Participants will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement a WLAN in a small-to-medium network. Course topics include: WAN Network Fundamentals, WAN Technologies, WAN Switching Technologies, WAN Routing Fundamentals, and Wireless Networks. Capital Community College has four levels of Data Communications and Networking, this is the third of four (all available on Skills Commons).
