Abstract

Oral Pathology prepares students to identify and evaluate conditions of the oral cavity caused by various disease processes. Identification and understanding of these conditions is imperative for the dental hygienist to make appropriate decisions such as altering dental hygiene treatment or referring patients for dental or medical specialty evaluations. This course provides the dental hygienist with an understanding of how conditions of the oral cavity affect other organs and systems in the body and how systemic diseases can affect the oral cavity.
