Abstract
This course introduces mental health for nursing students. Topics covered include the role of the registered nurse in caring for clients of differing age groups with alterations in mental health. Emphasis is placed on the nursing process, therapeutic communication, neurobiological and psychosocial theories, psychopharmacology and nursing care of the mentally ill client. Nursing interventions focus on client care specific to the mental illness, client and family education and identification of community resources.
