Abstract

"This learning object briefly talks about the resting membrane potential of the neuron and the electrical signals such as graded potentials and action potentials caused by disruptions of that resting membrane potential. This learning object also discusses how action potentials are transmitted along the axon. Topics include: 1) the resting membrane potential, 2) the ion channels associated with the creation of electrical signals, 3) the events in the formation of an action potential, 4) graded potentials, 5) summation of graded potentials, and 6) saltatory and continuous conduction. The learning object includes videos as well as a quiz group.
