Abstract

: This class introduces basic theory and concepts of antigen/antibody reactions, basic immunology, immunology reagents and testing including the cells and mediators of immunity. It also includes the theory of blood group antigens and the genetics of their inheritance. Methods of performing blood group typing, pre-transfusion tests and compatibility will be taught. The laboratory component of the course will be used to develop the skills required to perform blood bank procedures and waived immunology testing.
