Abstract
In order to work around statewide shortages, the role of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) was recently established to provide support to the Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP). This working relationship will vary with each partnership, but general practices are being established and defined. This paper describes strategies utilized by the Mitchell Technical Institute (MTI) Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) training program to establish a clear role for SLPAs in the state of South Dakota, and to inform stakeholders of the role of SLPAs in the workforce.
