Abstract

This course is the first in a series three courses (GST105AA, GST105AB, GST105AC) that provide introduction to remote sensing of the Earth. Topics in the series include the physical principles on which remote sensing is based, history and future trends, sensors and their characteristics, image data sources, and image classification, interpretation and analysis techniques. This course is designed to be used as a stand-alone course to complement other disciplines or as an entry level course into a geospatial program. Course content is based upon the United States Department of Labor's Geospatial Technology Competency Model for entry level geospatial occupations including Geospatial or GIS Technicians and Technologists. Note: There is a Final Project to assess student learning across the three courses (GST105AA Introduction to Remote Sensing: Introduction and Physical Foundation of Remote Sensing, GST105AB Introduction to Remote Sensing: Sensor Platforms, Image Processing Basics, Band Ratios, Transformation and Elements of Photogrammetry, and GST105AC Introduction to Remote Sensing: Image Classification, Accuracy Assessment, and Final Project) that occurs at the end of the series of courses in Lesson 2 of GST105AC.
