Abstract

The Veterinary Health Care Assistant program prepares entry-level veterinary technician assistants to practice under the supervision of certified veterinarians and animal rehabilitators in a variety of animal care and wellness settings. Participants gain the basic principles, attitudes, and experiences needed to work as veterinary technician assistants in veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and laboratory animal facilities. Course descriptions, outcomes and instructional objectives were developed for fourteen (14) animal science courses as part of the MCCWTA grant. The program started as a non-credit offering and is in the process of becoming a credit bearing associates degree program (AAS). Once the program has been formally approved it will be listed in the college catalog.
