Abstract

This learning object covers chemical reations and equations, identifying changes in a substance as either a chemical or physical change, as well as outlining the conditions required for a chemical reaction to occur and associated reaction rates. The object also provides examples of the five general types of chemical reactions and steps identifying reactions as either endothermic or exothermic reactions. The object introduces the structure of a chemical equation, providing a guide for balancing chemical equations from the formulas of a reaction. Further explained are the terms of oxidation and reduction as it relates to an oxidation-reaction reaction. This learning object is part 11 of 17 parts that comprise this Introductory Chemistry Course.
