Abstract
This NANSLO lab activity is self-contained and can be used in second semester general biology with lab. In this activity, glucose oxidase is injected into a sugar solution resulting in a color change which is detected/quantified by a spectrometer. Reactions can be performed six different times to see how conditions affect rates. The lab activity includes background information on enzymes, how they are affected by certain variables, how colorimetric enzyme reaction are used to explain enzyme activity, how to determine the effect of temperature on enzymatic activity, how to determine the effect of substrate concentration on enzymatic activity, and describes how to graph quantitative data collected. The lab activity includes pre-lab exercises, lab exercises, and summary questions.
