Abstract

The course work was designed to ensure student achievement of entry-level competencies as a medical Assistant and to meet the accreditation requirements to qualify students to take a certification exam as a Medical Assistant, which is offered by The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), and can be taken when a medical assisting program is accredited by the AAMA. We are in the process of preparing for this credential. The curriculum includes anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, psychology, communications (oral and written) skills, medical assisting administrative procedures, and clinical procedures, as well as an externship that provides practical experience in a qualified physicians’ office, accredited hospital, or other health care facilities.
