Abstract

The collection of resources provide syllabi, lecture notes, simulation skills check-offs, clinical evaluation rubrics, and a cross walk alignment of course objectives with Alabama Nursing Assistant Standards (NAS). These materials provide resources for instructing students in the necessary theory, laboratory and clinical experiences for care of geriatric and long-term care clients/residents. Emphasis is placed on infection control, safety, body mechanics, communication, and personal and restorative care. An overview of the nursing department’s philosophy, objectives, and conceptual framework is included along with information and experiences in following care plans, as well as the roles of healthcare providers and information on healthcare facilities. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to apply theory and simulated laboratory concepts in resident/client care in accordance with the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) 1987 guidelines.
