Abstract
This is an introductory motor controls course. The cornerstone of this class is the lab where students wire and trouble-shoot control systems that they might see in industry. Our college has an extensive lab including “pre-built” lab equipment (LabVolt and Amatrol) and “home built” combination motor starters with industrial grade relays, switches, lights and terminals strips. The academic side of the course where students learn terminology, print-reading, and basic control concepts is important, however it is in the lab where real competence is gained.
