Abstract
At Arkansas State University Beebe we changed our developmental math sequence from a three semester progression to a computer-based, modularized course containing twelve modules. Attached is the syllabus for Foundations of Algebra I (the first six modules). The syllabus for Foundations of Algebra II (the final six modules) would be exactly the same except for course title and number. In our second year of the new computer-based course we implemented the strike policy that can be found on page 5 of the syllabus. In academic year 12-13 37% of students who enrolled in Foundations of Algebra I had (at a minimum) progressed to Foundations of Algebra II by the end of the academic year. In academic year 13-14 60% of the students who enrolled in Foundations of Algebra I had (at a minimum) progressed to Foundations of Algebra II by the end of the academic year. The single semester pass rate for Foundations of Algebra I for Fall 2012 was 38% compared to 49% for Fall 2013.
