Abstract

ourse Description This course is designed to prepare the student to function in Phlebotomy and Electrocardiography in a professional healthcare setting. A phlebotomist is a professionally trained person who may work in a hospital, clinical laboratory, health-care facility, or physician’s office to obtain blood specimens by venipuncture and micro-techniques procedures. After taking this course the student will also be able to perform diagnostic EKGs. In addition to technical, clerical, and interpersonal skills, the phlebotomist/ EKG technician must develop strong organizational skills to handle a heavy workload efficiently and maintain accuracy, often under stressful conditions. Multiskilling of health care providers is essential for a care delivery system that provides clinical quality and cost-effective outcomes.
