Abstract
This learning defines a solution, identifies the components of a solution, and describes the formation of a solution. The object also discusses how solutions relate to electrolytes, providing examples of both strong and weak electrolytes. Properties of a mixture, including the identification of a mixture as either a solution, a colloid, or a suspension, is explained. The learning object introduces the process of osmosis and dialysis. Concepts additionally discussed in this learning object include solubility, the classification of solutions as saturated or unsaturated solutions, and the formation of soluble and insoluble salts. Calculating both percent concentration and molarity of a solution is also explained. The learning object further describes dilutions of a solution and how to calculate the concentration or volume of a diluted solution, along with the use of concentration of solutions in stoichiometry. This learning object is part 15 of 17 parts that comprise this Introductory Chemistry Course.
