Abstract

This NANSLO lab activity is self-contained and can be used in first and second semester general biology with lab, microbiology, and botany courses. In this activity, prepared slides of different organisms are used to compare cellular structures at magnifications up to 600x to determine characteristics of plant and animal cells. The lab activity includes background information which describes the structural and size differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, identifies parts of a cell, describes the appearance and function of the major components of a cell, and explains how plant cells differ from animal cells. The lab activity includes pre-lab exercises, lab exercises, and summary questions.
