    This collection of curriculum for the Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician program at Baker College has been created to the standards of the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education. When a learner completes this coursework with the guidance of a certified professional, they may then be prepared for their appropriate state examinations to become a certified orthotic or prosthetic technician. Note: this curriculum is intended for classroom / laboratory delivery and cannot on its own replace the comprehensive education found within an accredited educational institution. Those interested in pursuing a career in orthotics or prosthetics technology should contact their nearest academic program.

    This Pedorthist Certificate Course focuses on orthotic treatment modalities of the lower extremity distal to the junction of the gastrocnemius and the Achilles tendon. Students in this course will receive instruction on the assessment, formulation, implementation, and follow up of an orthotic treatment plan for common foot and/or ankle disorders affecting pediatric, adult and geriatric populations.

    In this course, you will learn medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, and ethical behavior as it pertains to the field of orthotics, prosthetics, and pedorthics. Special emphasis will be placed on developing the background knowledge for the Medicare billing system specific to orthotics, prosthetics, and pedorthics. Most importantly, you will learn to function as an important member of the healthcare team by providing key services such as patient registration and scheduling, medical records management, diagnostic and procedural coding, insurance claim filing and daily financial practices.
